What is Maleny Celtic Winter School?

The 2009 Maleny Celtic Winter School is finally up and running!

Modelled on the popular summer music schools in Ireland and Britain, MCWS is a workshop weekend for those playing, interested in playing or just improving their skills in traditional Irish and Scots music. And although workshops are the focus there will also be plenty of opportunities for participating in the trad sessions over the weekend.

We've gathered a high quality roster of tutors including two of the best Irish fiddle players in Australia, Adrian Barker and Fred Graham and flute player extraordinaire Beth McCracken. Backed by a craic team of instructors in a wide range of instruments, we'll be offering classes to suit every taste in Celtic music.

All levels of player are catered for with several beginner/slow tune workshops focussing on learning tunes by ear at a pace that suits beginner/intermediate players, as well as classes catering for more advanced players.

As the name suggests, Maleny is the setting for the weekend. The school will be based in and around Finbar's Irish bar in Bicentennial Lane, Maleny with other venues within walking distance. On a chilly Maleny day there's nothing better than slipping into Finbar's newly refurbished room and feeling the warmth from the wood-fired pizza oven and knocking out a few tunes.
