Maleny Celtic Winter School News
New tutor!
As we go from counting the weeks to counting the days, we are sad to announce that Liam Fitzpatrick is unable to make it to this year's Winter School. But, as is the way of all things, every cloud has a silver lining. So we are very excited to announce that Maria Cafferkey from Co. Mayo (and more recently Co. Brisbane) is going to be our mandolin/banjo tutor for 2011. Have a look at her details on our tutors page. See you all there!

2010 Winter School Photos
For your viewing pleasure, we are proud to present a series of photographs kindly and skilfully shot by the generous and talented (and handsome - but don't tell him we said that) Evan Mathieson. You can view the photos from the 2010 Photo Gallery page which is also accessible from the 'Home' menu. We have taken the liberty of dividing the photos into categories, hopefully making viewing a little bit easier. If you have any suggestions or improvement ideas, please contact us. You may also contact us if you would like a full size copy of one of the photos you see on the page, or if you would prefer a photo of yourself to be removed.

Practice Tunes Available
Thanks to our DADGAD guitar tutor Jeremy Dunlop, we are able to supply guitar (and other) students with a series of practice tunes. These tunes are designed to provide the student with a melody line to accompany. There are a total of four tunes available at the moment on our Practice Tunes page (also accessible under the 'Home' menu). Thank you to Jeremy for recording the tunes and making them available to us.

Some Minor Updates
Greetings again one and all. We have made some minor changes to the program page - mainly centered around shuffling rooms so we can fit everyone in! We have also added some MORE classes so that you don't have to miss out on anything. Steve Cook will be taking the Sunday Absolute Beginner Fiddle class, with Kristin Kelly taking the Saturday class only. We have added Eamon Murray from Beoga as a tutor - he will be taking a two hour bodhran class on Sunday. We have the pleasure of hosting TWO fantastic LOCAL instrument makers - violin maker and maintainer Ilya Grawert, and Stanley River local and maker of guitars, mandolins and all sorts of things with strings Doug Eaton. Ilya and Doug will be available both Saturday and Sunday to display and talk about their wares, and offer maintenance advice in lunchtime workshops. We have another new venue to use, and things keep getting bigger and better. Keep the enrolments coming in, but hurry because we're just over three weeks away. See you there!

Bodhran Tutors
Exciting news, Winter Schoolers! We have been blessed to acquire the genius of Eamon Murray, bodhran player from fantastic Irish band Beoga. Eamon has kindly agreed to take time out of their hectic touring schedule (don't miss them at the National Celtic Festival, or the Judith Wright Centre on June 19) to come along and show us a trick or two. For those of you still trying to decide whether to attend - think no longer! Have a look at Eamon's bio on our instructors page.

We are pleased to announce that the extraordinary Dave Russell will be running our Absolute Beginners Flute & Whistle class this year. Dave has been playing whistle for a lot of years (he may or may not care to admit how many!) and is a regular whistle tutor at Woodford Folk Festival. Dave's bio is now up on our instructors page.

New Website
The MCWS2010 website has a new look. We figured that as we step into a new decade and a new configuration of the Winter School we should give the website a facelift. You'll find all the same information under all the same headings as last year, but we think it's laid out a little bit better and it's a little friendlier on the eyes. Let us know what you think!

2010 Winter School
More classes, more options, more fun! Thanks to the feedback we received last year, we've taken the opportunity to add even more classes, more instruments, and an Absolute Beginners class for fiddle and flute/whistle. We're really excited about the program for this year and your feedback each time only makes it better and better. Don't hesitate to ask us questions or offer suggestions.
