“It is impossible for an individual or even a group of individuals to analyze all the available data,” explains Pasi Tuominen, project manager at Haaga-Helia. “We use machine learning to analyze this data and give us actionable insights so that decisions can be made about the program. “

Provide the skills needed for the future

The solution is called Crystal Ball and was designed by Haaga-Helia and their partners Headai, Stereoscape and Realfiction. Visitors to the Finnish Pavilion of the Dubai Expo can see the solution and how it can open doors to future careers.

Tuominen points out that one of the beauties of Crystal Ball is the way it lets you see the data. The results of the AI ​​analysis are visible on 3D animated holographic screens that are easy to understand.

“It allows you to view large amounts of data in a readable format,” he says. “The software shows you the reality of what is needed. How do companies perceive the skills they need and how do these fit into our existing curriculum? How far apart are they from each other? “

The system analyzed thousands of job vacancies in Austin, Brussels, Dubai, Helsinki, Nairobi and Singapore and compared them with different Haaga-Helia programs such as ICT, Global Business Administration, Sports Coaching , vocational education, hospitality and tourism.

Innovative and tailor-made teaching

Crystal Ball has revealed one thing that may surprise some people: The skills in demand vary almost as much between geographic locations as they do between different jobs.

“If you look at the skills a hotel general manager needs in Austin versus those he needs in Nairobi, you realize that employers are looking for very different skill sets in different cities,” Tuo- explains. minen. “We have to take into account the skills needed not only for different professions, but also for different regions of the world. “

This poses a challenge for higher education institutions. In the modern world, many people study abroad and then take jobs in other countries.
